Caroline Cowan - White Sage Holistic Center
A brief history of my success as a Holistic Consultant.

In 1973 I was the first nursing assistant to become CardioVascular Technician of the Cardiac Catheterization Lab at Saint Joseph Hospital, Elgin, IL.

In 1974 I took employment at Sherman Hospital in Elgin, Illinois as a member of their new Cardiac Program. While working as a Cardio Vascular Technician, I graduated from Sherman Hospital's EMS Program as a Level I EMT.

In 1976  I graduated from Elgin Community College where I received an Associate Degree in Science and Nursing. After passing the Illinois State Licensure, I advanced as a RN in the Cardiac Catherization Lab performing critical care nursing duties such as invasive and non- invasive cardiac testing, Cardiac Surgery Monitoring. I also became a member of the Critical Care Transport Team.

While working full-time, on-call, and raising a family, in 1997, I experienced a life changing medical event. My MD advised me to pursue Alternative Health Care.  While researching the Alternative Health Care field, I found it to be beneicial to my health. Though resources were limited in my area, I found a private college in Sycamore, IL, that teaches this new frontier.  Northern Prairie Center for Education & Healing Arts opened many avenues for me including Herbalism and Craniosacral Thearpy.

December 1, 1999, I graduated from Northern Prairie (a private Diploma College) with a diploma in Therapeutic Herbalism, which is recognized by the Illinois State Board of Education.

Also in December of 1999, I received a Reiki Level I Certificate from Karen Mitchell of Haven Church in St. Charles, IL.

April of 2000, I applied and joined the American Herbalist Guild as a member in good standing, and received my Reiki Level II Certification/Practitioner from Karen Mitchell.

In June 2000, I achieved a Doctorate of Divinity, from  Midwest University and Haven Church, St Charles, IL.

After successfully completing my first steps of this new journey, in July of 2000, I opened my first treatment room as White Sage Inc. where I provided Reiki and consultations in Therapeutic Herbalism. As one more step, I joined the Reiki Nurses Association.

While staying busy with White Sage Inc., in August 2000,  I continued with my success with Reiki and became a Reiki Level III Master-Practitioner from Karen Mitchell, of Haven Church. In Fall of 2000 I joined the Holistic Arts & Health Alliance.

December 2001 I received my final Certification as a Reiki Master-Teacher from Karen Mitchell of Haven Church.

In Spring of 2002 White Sage expanded and moved to 1970 Larkin Ave. Suite 3, in Elgin, Illinois where White Sage Holistic Center Inc. currently reside. I also went back to Northern Prairie School in Sycamore, IL to received a Certificate in Craniosacral Therapy. I decided to expand in Winter 2002.

In January 2004, I rejoined the nursing staff at Saint Joseph Hospital (Provena) in Elgin, IL, as their Trainer & Educator for the Cardiac Catheterization Lab.

Fall 2004 I became a member of the American Holistic Nurses Association and I am proud to say that White Sage Holistic Center has grown greatly.  We are now receiving referrals from area physicians for wellness consultations and we successfully offer several beneficial services to citizens of Elgin and the surrounding areas.
